Do people really find new businesses on social media?
Social media sits next to search as one of the main ways people find new businesses. GWI's survey of internet users aged 16 and over, published in DataReportal's Digital 2026 mid-year update, found 30.1% discover new brands through social media ads, close behind search engines at 32.4%. An ad only works if the profile it leads to looks alive, which is where your own posts come in.

How often should a small business post on social media?
How often a small business posts matters less than whether it keeps going. Buffer looked at more than 100,000 of its users over 26 weeks and found that those who posted in 20 or more of those weeks got more than five times the engagement per post of those who posted in four weeks or fewer. Buffer's 2026 report found accounts that skipped a week grew more slowly than their usual rate, and that one or two posts a week already made a difference.

What should a small business post when it runs out of ideas?
Running out of ideas usually means the business hasn't written down what it stands for. Write a short brand brief: who you serve, what you sell, what makes you different and how you sound. Then pick three or four themes a month, such as a product, a moment behind the scenes, a customer's question and an offer, and write each one for every platform you use rather than pasting one post everywhere.
Does a small business need professional photos for social media?
A small business doesn't need professional photos, but real ones help. Photos of your actual products, space and people show customers what they'll get, and a phone in good light is enough. Where you don't have a photo yet, an AI picture can stand in for a seasonal post or an idea, as long as it doesn't pretend to show something you sell.
How do you keep posting when you're busy running the business?
Keeping up with social media while running a business works best when you plan a month at once and approve in one sitting. Loomis Social helps with each step: it writes your brand brief from your website, plans the month, drafts the posts for each platform, adds your photos or makes pictures in your look, and drafts replies to the comments you choose. You decide what needs your sign-off before anything goes out.
